Show #142
University of Dayton Arena
Dayton, Ohio
Announcer: Joey Styles
Shockwave opened up for another week with the Rated R Superstar stepping out from the smoke to recieve a chorus of boos from the Dayton crowd. Edge stood at the top of the stage with a smirk on his face and soaked in the atmosphere before continuing his way to the ring. Before he could even say a word, Chris Jericho joined him in the ring and teased some tention, but they then smiled and shook hands. Edge was then handed a microphone to address the fans.
"Last week you all witnessed why it's a big mistake to leave out the hottest guy on the roster from the main-event! I did every fan a favour by ending that match early because even though you are all too scared to admit it, you want to see me in the main-event, and not some fat Samoan and a flash in the pan who couldn't hold onto the title for more than 3 weeks. You people need people like me and Jericho, and now that I've taken those guys out, you're in for the best time of your worthless little lives. Get ready for the Canadians to take their rightful places!"
Although apparently the crowd needs him, they booed Edge's speech. Nevertheless, Edge smiled and passed the microphone over to the Undisputed C4 Champion, Chris Jericho.
"When you're right Edge, you are right! These people don't want to see Joe or Daniels, they want to see hot young studs like the greatest Champion in GWA history, Chris Jericho and the Rated R Superstar, Edge. And that's why I've come out here to announce the main-event that you guys have always wanted to see. Due to the fact that Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels both lost last week, it's now going to be Edge who challenges my good self at CyberSlam".
The crowd did not like the announcement that was just made and did whatever they could to ruin the touching moment between Edge and Jericho who hugged to make the match official. The moment was interupted however by Paul Heyman who wasn't looking too impressed.
"First and foremost, last week I made an announcement that Shockwave was going to be the new face of this sport, and when I said that, I had great competitive matches in mind, not two grown men embracing in the middle of the ring. So once you've finished your Brokeback moment I'd like to say a few things. Concerning your proposed CyberSlam main-event, I've got problem with it. Chris, if you want Edge to challenge you for the Undisputed Championship, then that is fine with me. However, before you get too excited, I thought it would be fair to tell you to your face that I've also added Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe to that match to make it a very interesting Four Way match. Thanks for your time gentlemen, I'll see you around!"
Edge and Jericho mirrored eachother's shocked reaction to Heyman's announcement. This wasn't helped by Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels stepping out from behind the curtain just to show them how happy they were with Heyman's announcement. They then returned to the back.
Match One
Path to CyberSlam Tournament
Rocky 'Azucar' Romero vs. Chris Sabin
Although Sabin blocked most of Romero's early kick attempts, eventually they began to break through his armour. Rocky whipped Sabin across the ring and went for a roundhouse kick, but Sabin ducked under and took Rocky down with a clothesline. Sabin lifted Romero for a superplex from the top, but Rocky chopped Sabin across the chest and pushed him onto his back. Rocky jumped from the top and kicked Sabin right in the face which was enough to get the three.
Winner(s): Rocky Romero
Backstage:
Maria Kanellis stood with the current GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Ricky Marvin and Kotaro Suzuki who were set to defend those belts against Naomichi Marufuji and the JGP Champion KENTA. Ricky Marvin said that it was an honour to step inside a GWA ring to face such amazing talent, but as soon as the bell sounded and the match began, all that honour and respect would vanish because he would do anything to hold onto the Championship belts.
Match Two
Cable Television Championship Tournament
Joey 'Magnum' Ryan vs. 'Classic' Colt Cabana
The match looked like it could have finished early when Joey caught Cabana with a roundhouse kick on the second rope which set up for Joey's Moustache Ride. However, Cabana countered with a Sunset Flip and slammed Joey into the middle of the ring. Joey wasn't finished though and he almost picked up the victory with a school boy and a handful of tights, but Cabana rolled through, kicked Joey in the midsection and dropped him with the Colt 45 for the victory.
Winner(s): Colt Cabana
Backstage:
From one set of Tag Team Champions to another as Tazz introduced the viewers to the Global Tag Team Champions, Senshi and Homicide. Tazz congratulated Haas and Benjamin for becoming the next victims to be fed to the Strong Style Thugs. He added that just because they're proud American boys, it doesn't mean a thing. Even with America behind them, the outcome is already set in stone, and just as Tazz said earlier, at CyberSlam they'll become just another victim!
Match Three
Singles Contest
Takeshi Morishima vs. Kurt Angle
Morishima wasn't even able to make it down to the ring before being jumped by Angle who wished to give him a taste of his own medicine. Angle bounched Morishima's head off of the steel steps, but Morishima powered out during an Irish whip attempt which saw him send Angle into and over the guard rail and into the crowd. The referee called for assistance which caused both men to be seperated before the match had began and with nothing settled between them.
Winner(s): No Contest
Backstage:
Paul Heyman was sitting in his office with KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji standing infront of his desk. Paul wished them the best of luck in their match, and on their way out of the door they bumped into Chris Jericho and Edge who were just walking in. After a short staredown, Edge and Jericho walked on and straight upto Heyman. Just as they were about to shoot off, Heyman said that he wanted to make up for his unfair treatment of them, and suddenly they were willing to listen. Paul said that for the match to take place, they deserve to have a warm-up match so that they know what they're getting themselves in for at CyberSlam, so on Saturday night they would be taking on both Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels in tag team action. Paul Heyman then dismissed them from his office as he was needed at ringside for the main-event.
Match Four
GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships
Champions, Ricky Marvin and Kotaro Suzuki vs. Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA
The match began quickly when KENTA refused to shake Ricky Marvin's hand and instead slapped him across the face. KENTA backed Marvin into the ropes with several more slaps, sent him across the ring and knocked him down with a running knee. KENTA then ran over to Suzuki and knocked him from the apron with a straight right hand. As the referee held Suzuki back in his corner, KENTA and Marufuji double teamed Ricky Marvin behind the official's back.
Marufuji made the blind tag and began choking Marvin with his boot. Marvin was stuck between the bottom rope and Marufuji's boot for the entire five count before the referee forced the break from Marufuji. Marvin was taken down with a single leg and dragged back to the corner where Naomichi tagged KENTA back in who hopped over the top rope and dropped a knee right across Ricky Marvin's leg. KENTA hit a Guillotine DDT across the top rope and landed on the apron.
As KENTA leapt onto the top rope for a flying elbow, Suzuki met him in mid-air and took him down with an amazing hurricanrana. Both men crawled to their corner and Suzuki was tagged in. He stormed inand began to clean house with clotheslines and dropkicks. But Marufuji snuck up and hit a low blow leading to the Shiranui but Suzuki pushed Marufuji over the top. However, he turned into KENTA's Go 2 Sleep and KENTA covered before Marvin could make the save.
Winner(s): Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA
Aftermath:
Paul Heyman stepped into the ring and handed over the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship belts to Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA who now had two belts to carry. The former holders slowly slid from the ring and returned to the back with their heads down. The show faded to black with KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji celebrating with the belts now around their waists.
