(XXIX) As soon as the GWA logo faded from the screen, the show opened up inside of the arena and Rey Mysterio's music hit to signal the start of the show. 17,900 fans erupted and blew the roof off as Mysterio made his way down to the ring.
Junior Grand Prix Championship Triple Threat Match
Petey Williams (c) vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Sabin
Chris Sabin got on the mic and said that he has been overlooked even though he took the Champion to the limit only a couple of weeks ago. The words weren't taken lightly as both Mysterio and Williams clotheslined him over the top and then went to work on one another. Mysterio put Williams in the corner and slapped him across the chest before he attempted an irish-whip that was countered. He was sent into the corner but he jumped to the top and hit Williams with a moonsault.
Sabin broke the pin and slammed Mysterio's face into the top turnbuckle and then stomped him down into the corner. Petey jumped in and hit a German Suplex with a bridge broken by Rey. Petey kicked Rey in the ribs and ran the ropes for the Canadian Destroyer, but Rey flapjacked Williams face first onto the second rope. He hit the 6-1-9 and tried the West Coast Pop, but Sabin pushed Petey out of the way and powerbombed Mysterio, grabbing the tights for the 1.. 2.. 3!
Winner, and new JGP Champion: Chris Sabin
Aftermath:
Chris Sabin collected his new title belt and ran to the top of the Shockwave set and raised the title aloft. Mysterio and Williams looked on in complete disbelief as Sabin wrapped the title belt around his waist.
Backstage:
Kurt Angle told Shelton Benjamin to focus on defeating Shawn Michaels tonight as it would complete so many objectives for the team. One, it would get revenge for Michael Shane who is now retired thanks to HBK, and two, it would allow Shelton to become the Number One Contender and face Angle at CyberSlam, once he defeats Jericho at Final Four. Imagine, Kurt finished with, "A Team Angle main-event, and we could keep the title in the family!".
Backstage:
Paul Heyman rallied up the troops as they got ready to go into battle with Raven and Rhino up next.
Tag Team Contest
Raven and Rhino vs. Rob Van Dam and CM Punk
Rhino and CM Punk started the match off, and Punk stepped out from his corner, but then shot back and knocked RVD off of the apron with a vicious back elbow. Punk left the ring and began to put the boots to Van Dam as Paul Heyman held his arms behind his back. Punk slammed RVD's head off of the steel steps and rolled him back into the ring where he was easy pickings for Rhino to get the GORE and pin Rob Van Dam for the quick victory.
Winners: Raven and Rhino
Aftermath:
Raven got on the mic and told RVD that he was always one step ahead of him, and at Final Four, he will be easy pickings for Raven. Raven then left with Rhino, CM Punk and Paul Heyman all following closely behind.
Backstage:
The Rock confronts Steve Austin and congratulates him on making last week "his show". Austin didn't find that comment funny and said that he would be getting his revenge on Benoit and Guerrero very soon, but The Rock said that if Austin does anything to either of them, Rock will make him regret his decision.
Final Four Qualifier
Shelton Benjamin vs. Shawn Michaels
Benjamin took HBK straight down to the mat and began to work over some holds, attempting to get Shawn to submit but Michaels crawled to the ropes. Benjamin whipped HBK into the ropes and attempted a back body drop but Shawn kicked him in the face and then hit him with a clothesline. After a pin attempt, HBK went to whip Shelton into the ropes but it was countered and on the return, Benjamin attempted a superkick, but HBK grabbed the foot, but was hit by the Dragon Whip.
Michaels began to mount a comeback but Charlie Haas ran down to the ring and pulled the referee's attention away from the action, allowing Benjamin to low blow Michaels for a roll up, but HBK managed to kick out at two. Haas jumped up onto the apron with a steel chair and Shelton attempted an irish whip into it, but HBK countered and threw Benjamin into the steel chair knocking Haas off of the apron. Benjamin staggered back into the ring and was hit by Sweet Chin Music!
Winner: Shawn Michaels
Aftermath:
Matt Hardy's music hit and he made his way out to the stage with microphone in hand. He congratulated Shawn Michaels on defeating Shelton Benjamin, and wished him luck as it would be Hardy who HBK faces in the Semi-Finals of the Tournament, but told him not to get his hopes up, because this was the beginning of the Mattitude Era in the GWA.
Backstage:
Chris Jericho was shown warming up for his match when Chris Benoit walked up behind him and told him that he's determined to win the Final Four Tournament, but whether Jericho is Champion or not, Benoit said that he's waiting for him.
Backstage:
America's White Trash were walking backstage talking about the title match saying that they wasn't going to let Eddie Guerrero become World Champion. They then came across Double Dragon entering the arena and they went to attack him but Daniels and Low Ki managed to take the titles from A.W.T. and use them against them, knocking them down to the hallway floor.
Singles Contest
Kurt Angle vs. John Cena
Angle laughed at Cena saying that he was nothing and that Angle was only a matter of weeks from taking back his title. Cena launched into a tirade of rights and lefts, forcing Angle into the corner and connecting with several back elbows to the temple. Cena whipped Angle into the opposite corner and knocked him down with a axe handle smash to the face. Cena then climbed to the second rope and came flying off with an elbow drop onto Angle into a two count.
Cena attempted another irish-whip but Angle countered and pulled Cena back in for an Angle Slam, but Cena countered that into an arm drag into another axe handle smash, busting Kurt's nose open. Cena then lifted Kurt up for an F-U but Angle slid out and hit Cena with a release German Suplex and quickly removed the straps. Kurt then put Cena in the Ankle Lock as the blood ran down his face. Cena reached the ropes but Angle refused to let go, until the referee called for the bell.
Winner, by Disqualification: John Cena
Aftermath:
A group of referees entered the ring and finally got Kurt Angle to let go of Cena's ankle and make his way to the back as EMTs checked on Cena who looked to have a broken ankle.
Backstage:
Eddie Guerrero told Chavo Guerrero to stay in the back and let him win the match on his own. Chavo said that he would stay back, but if anyone tries to interfere and cost Eddie the match, Chavo said that he would do whatever he could.
Backstage:
Austin and Rock were still arguing when AJ Styles and Jamie Noble burst into the office and demanded a match against Double Dragon. The Rock said that since last week was Austin's show, this would would be The Rock's, so he made a match between America's White Trash and Double Dragon for Final Four with the Tag Team Championships on the line.
GWA World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Jericho (c) vs. Eddie Guerrero
The two men locked up with a collar and elbow tie-up and Jericho quickly turned to his side and stuck a knee into the mid-section of Guerrero, and then took him down to his knees and locked in a side arm bar. Guerrero used his free arm to trip Jericho over and break the hold. Guerrero ran the ropes but Jericho quickly got to his feet and hit a standing dropkick on Guerrero knocking him down. Jericho whipped Guerrero into the corner and hit Guerrero with a running bulldog.
Jericho attempted a Lionsault but Guerrero rolled out of the way and then shoulder tackled him into the corner and thrusted his shoulders into the ribs of Jericho. Eddie purched Jericho on the top turnbuckle and hit a Hurricanrana sending Jericho to the centre of the ring. Guerrero then attempted a Frogsplash but Jericho managed to move out of the way. Y2J then hit the Lionsault and covered Guerrero but Eddie somehow managed to get a shoulder up.
Eddie countered an irish-whip attempt and pulled Jericho in for the Three Amigos, vertical suplexes. Eddie then took Jericho's hand, skipped onto the top rope and attempted another hurricanrana but Jericho countered into a powerbomb. AJ Styles entered the ring with a title belt but Chavo ran in, took the belt from Styles and swung it, but AJ ducked and Eddie took the blunt of the belt. AJ then clotheslined Chavo out of the ring as Jericho covered Eddie for the victory.
Winner, and still World Heavyweight Champion: Chris Jericho
Aftermath:
AJ Styles pulled Chris Jericho from the ring and dragged him to the top of the stage and to safety. Chavo rolled back into the ring and checked on his Uncle as the Night of Champions faded to black. END OF SHOW!
