Mellon Arena
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The show begins with a video package showing the matches that will be taking place tonight. The video ends with a lengthy highlight reel of how Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho got to their one-on-one match for the GWA World Heavyweight Championship. "Burn" by Dope then hits and it's time to hit the pyros in the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. Not surprisingly there was a large majority of Kurt Angle signs in the crowd with Angle returning home for the first time in the GWA. Jim Ross and Tazz then introduce us to the show:
JR; "The Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA has been sold-out for weeks in anticipation for the second "Night of Champions". Welcome ladies and gentlemen, I am Jim Ross and sitting next to me here at ringside is Tazz!
Tazz; "Thanks JR, and it's great to be here, one hell of an atmosphere. Let's send it up to the ring and kick of "Night of Champions".
Singles Contest
Tajiri (w/ Kaz) vs. Shane Helms
After a moment of tension the two eventually lock-up to start the match. Tajiri goes behind into a waist lock but Helms forces his way out of it and whips Tajiri into the ropes and then knocks him down with a flying forearm. Helms hits Tajiri with a snapmare but Tajiri powers his way back up to his feet and kicks up his knee and connects with Shane Helms' face.
With Helms on the back foot, Tajiri runs towards him with a clothesline attempt but Helms quickly comes to and uses Tajiri's momentum and launches him over the top rope. Helms then climbs to the top rope but Kaz gets in between him and Tajiri but Helms just shrugs his shoulder and flies off of the top and lands on both Kaz and Tajiri to the crowd's delight.
Helms rolled Tajiri back into the ring but Kaz held onto Shane's leg stopping him from entering the ring. Tajiri then got to his feet and hit a low dropkick to Shane's face. With the momentum back in his favour, Tajiri whips Shane across the ring but Helms ducks the clothesline and kicks Tajiri in the mid-section. Helms then sets Tajiri up and drops the Verti-Breaker!
Shane makes the cover but Kaz tries to get into the ring. The referee attempts to stop him from entering when through the crowd comes TAKA Michinoku and Sho Funaki. Funaki whips Helms towards TAKA who hits the Michinoku Driver. Both men then exit the ring leaving Tajiri draped ontop of Helms so when the referee turns back he simply counts the three.
Winner(s): Tajiri
Once the bell rings, a woman (Chae An) walks to the ring closely followed by Akio. TAKA Michinoku, Sho Funaki and Kaz all re-enter the ring and pose with Tajiri. All five men pose over Shane Helms as Chae An stands infront of the group with a sadistic smile upon her face.
Backstage we see Spokesperson Hancock pacing up and down in her office and looking at her watch. But what could she be so anxious about?
Chris Jericho stands by backstage and says that Kurt Angle showed his true colours last week. Jericho was willing to put all bad feelings beside and join together for the greater good, but Angle showed that he is pure scum, a crater on the ass of every assclown in Pittsburgh and in the arena tonight! Jericho will not only retain his title tonight, but show to Angle and Benoit and everyone who dare challenge him that Y2J is unbeatable.
Singles Contest
AJ Styles vs. Paul London
Before the match began, Dawn Marie made her way down to the ring and sat with JR and Tazz. Paul looked like he obviously didn't want her there but before he could do anything about her, AJ Styles ambushed him from behind and slammed him into the corner. Styles then stomped down hard on London's chest until he was in a sitting position in the corner.
AJ picked London up and whipped him to the opposite corner but London was able to step up to the second rope and fly off hitting a modified moonsault onto Styles knocking him off his feet. London then picks Styles up and hit a couple of right hands before whipping him into the ropes. As Styles ran back to the centre of the ring London his a perfect dropsault.
Again quick on the offense threw Styles into the corner and connected with a couple of quick forearms. London then attempted to Irish whip Styles but Styles managed to counter but then London countered again and sent Styles into the corner, but like London, Styles jumped onto the second rope and flipped back with a moonsault but caught London with a reverse DDT.
Dawn Marie then got up from her announce position and jumped up onto the apron. Styles walked up to her and Dawn tried to slap him but Styles ducked out of the way but then he quickly got rolled up by London but kicked out after two. London went over to Dawn and asked her what she was doing but then Styles rolled him up and again it only got a two count.
Both men then got straight up to their feet with London going for a clothesline but Styles ducked and back kicked London in the mid-section, lifted him up for the Styles Clash but London flipped over Styles head for another roll up to which Styles rolled through himself and by grabbing the second rope with his hand got the three count.
Winner(s): AJ Styles
Dawn Marie got into the ring and tried to console Paul London but he simply shrugged her off and walked to the back alone. Dawn looked upset that she had cost London his match and ran after him to the back.
Petey Williams walks into his locker room and opens his locker but then jumps back. Petey takes a closer look and then pulls out one of Rey Mysterio's masks and just stares at it in confusion. Bobby Roode then walks in and puts his hand on Petey's shoulder who then almost jumps out of his skin, making Bobby jump in the process. Bobby tells Petey to pull himself together because "The Boss" wants to have a quick word.
Spokesperson Hancock looks ready to leave her office when Randy Orton walks in. She tells him that she doesn't have time for him right now but he gets in her way and says it's important. Randy says that the shows half way through and the "legend" still hasn't showed up. Miss Hancock laughs and says that as a matter of fact, he's standing right behind Randy. Randy slowly turns around to find Terry Funk in his face! Miss Hancock says that she'll leave them to get to know one another, but she has to be somewhere.
The cameras are in the parking lot and pick up a figure in the distance. The cameraman moves in and we then see that it's Raven. Raven says that what happened last week was not meant to be taken personally, it was just something that had to be done to get peoples attention. However, if RVD and Paul Heyman of all people want to make this situation personal, then so be it! Quote the Raven, nevermore!
Back inside the arena and Spokesperson Hancock comes out to the stage. She then introduces us to the owner of the Global Wrestling Alliance, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin! The crowd goes insane as the glass shatters and true to her word, Steve Austin walks out and down to the ring. After posing to all four corners of the arena he then grabs a microphone. Steve said that once he realised that he couldn't wrestle anymore, he couldn't bare to stay away from the business, so he just bought the whole company. The speech was cut short by Lance Storm who said that he was disgusted at having an alcoholic redneck as a boss. Austin said that he was glad to see Storm too, infact he wanted to see him and speak about his match at Wildfire. Storm asked Steve what he was going on about and then Steve announced that Lance Storm would defend the North American Championship against Eddie Guerrero at Wildfire! "And that's the bottom line, because your boss just said so!". Austin grabbed a few beers and then flipped Storm off.
In Miss Hancock's office Randy Orton is still in shock at Terry Funk's appearance. Funk says that he was horrified at how Orton treated Mick Foley, and just because he norrowly beat him doesn't make Orton "hardcore" or a legend killer. When Terry was given the chance to name any match for their match at Wildfire, he searched into the depths of Hardcore and decided to make the match a "Barbed Wire Rope" match!
North American Championship Match
Lance Storm (c) vs. Chris Benoit
Chris Benoit had to be held back by the referee before the match could begin but Lance Storm took advantage of it and dived over the referee and hit Benoit with a forearm smash. Storm forched Benoit into the corner and pushed his knee into Benoit's face until the referee began to pull him away from Benoit. Storm didn't stay off too long and returned with some stomps.
Storm whipped Benoit across the ring and then picked him up and dropped him hard with an Atomic drop. Storm then ran the ropes and attempted a clothesline but Benoit ducked and connected with a German Suplex. Benoit rolled through and attempted a second but Storm rolled through and hit Benoit with his very own version of a German Suplex.
With Benoit down, Lance Storm began to gloat but Benoit wasn't down for too long and burst out of the blocks and knocked Storm out of his shoes with a vicious clothesline. Storm got back to his feet but Benoit knocked Storm over the top rope with another hard clothesline. Benoit began to leave the ring but with his head out of the ropes, Storm hit back with a European Uppercut.
Benoit was knocked on his back and Lance Storm climbed to the top rope. Benoit slowly got to his feet and Storm launched off with a missile drop kick but Benoit stepped aside leaving Storm to eat canvas. With Storm face down Benoit hit an elbow drop to the lower back of the North American Champion. With Storm off of his feet, Benoit climbed to the top rope himself.
With a Headbutt looking set, Storm managed to kick the referee into the ropes which knocked Benoit off and his slammed down hard onto the canvas. Storm covered Benoit but Benoit grabbed the bottom rope at two. Storm tried for the Straight Shooter but Benoit kicked Storm into ropes but Storm hit them awkwardly and fell through them and back outside.
Benoit pulled himself to his feet and was about to leave the ring when he noticed Petey Williams on the apron. Benoit ran at Williams and knocked him off with a forearm smash. Bobby Roode looked to have tricked Benoit with a sneak attack but Benoit ducked an on coming attack and hit a release German Suplex sending Roode out of the ring.
With "Storm Team" cleared from the ring Benoit turned his attention back to Storm who was back in the ring with the Championship belt. Storm cracked the title belt across the forehead of Benoit and the referee had no choice but to call for the bell to end the match. Lance Storm began to use his fist to open up the wound more than had appeared on Benoits head.
Winner(s): Chris Benoit (Lance Storm retained)
With Storm picking Benoit apart, Eddie Guerrero ran down to the ring with a steel chair in hand but before he could get his hands on his Wildfire opponent, Petey Williams had alerted Lance of the danger and the trio dashed through the crowd. Guerrero checked on Benoit as EMTs made their way to the ring.
Backstage RVD looks angry and says that he can't believe that Raven ruined his big return last week. Paul Heyman tries to cool him down saying that what RVD is doing is ruining all of the work they did over the past few weeks. RVD says that he is the "Whole F'n Show" and he'll prove that in the ring when he kicks Raven's ass!
Gangrel, Edge and Christian are all backstage and Edge says that he took what Gangrel said last week to heart. It is time for him to make an impact, and he's going to do it right now. Edge begins to walk off when Christian pounces on him. Gangrel helps Christian throw Edge into the wall leaving him almost unconcious. Gangrel said that the impact has already been made with the weaking link of the team being eliminated!
Ring Announcers: "Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now time for the main event of this evening. The following contest is scheduled for one fall and if for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. The first person to score a pinfall or submission will be declared the winner!"
GWA World Heavyweight Championship Match
Chris Jericho (c) vs. Kurt Angle
"Medal" hit inside the Mellon Arena and everyone in the arena jumped to their feet and cheered at the top of their voice for the entrance of the home town hero, Kurt Angle. The Y2J countdown however didn't get such a friendly reaction but it did signal the arrival of the World Heavyweight Champion. Jericho and Angle began a stare down as the referee read the rules.
The two locked up and Jericho quickly went behind and took Angle down with a belly-to-back toss but Angle quickly rolled through and locked in the Ankle lock but Jericho just grabbed the bottom rope to break the hold. They lock up again and Angle goes behind Jericho who grabs Angles leg between his and pulls Angle over and tries the Walls of Jericho but Angle escapes.
For a third time they lock up and again Angle goes behind Jericho and attempts a German Suplex but Jericho blocks it and goes behind Angle to try the same move. This time Angle blocks the move and sneaks behind Jericho and then time elavates Jericho over but Jericho flips through, lands on his feet and knocks Angle down with a forearm smash.
John Cena slowly walked to ringside and showed Jericho that he had his eyes on him but soon after, Benoit with a bandaged head also walked to ringside and told Cena to stay out of it. The two then went to seperate sides of the ring to watch the action. Back in the ring and Jericho had Angle in the corner and connected with elbows to the side of Angles head.
Jericho whipped Angle across the ring and attempted a clothesline on the return but Angle ducked, kicked Y2J in the mid-section and hit a DDT to put both men down on the canvas. Angle draped a hand on the chest of Jericho but Jericho kicked out at a quick two. Jericho stood up first but Angle got behind Jericho and lifted him up onto his shoulders.
Angle ran towards the ropes but Jericho switched over and managed to hurricanrana Kurt Angle over the top rope and to the outside. Jericho grabbed onto the top rope and stayed on the apron but as soon as Angle stood up he jumped off of the apron towards him but Angle stepped aside and guided Jericho head first onto the steel steps.
Angle rolled Jericho back into the ring to get another two count. Angle then picked Jericho up and whipped him into the corner and followed up with a hard clothesline and some hard chops across Jericho's chest. Angle then attempted another Irish Whip but Jericho countered and sent Angle into the opposite corner with some velocity.
Jericho then ran at Angle who managed to lift him into the air and then dropped him head first onto the top turnbuckle. As Jericho staggered back Angle grabbed Jericho and hit the Angle Slam. Angle then made the cover but at two Benoit pulled Angle's foot and broke the count. Cena ran over to Benoit and clotheslined him down onto the ground.
Outside of the ring Cena and Benoit began to brawl but Cena managed to scoop Benoit up onto his shoulders and FU him onto and through the announce table. Angle smiles from the ring at Benoit being dumped through the and turns around to see Jericho getting to his feet and runs at him but Jericho pushes Angle into the referee knocking him over.
Jericho then scoops Angle up and over by his leg and turned him over into the Walls of Jericho. Angle began to tap out but the referee was still out and unable to stop the match. John Cena then slid into the ring and hit Jericho over the head with the steel chain wrapped around his wrist, knocking Jericho out and breaking the hold.
Eventually Angle pulls himself up by the ropes and locks in the Ankle lock onto Jericho who is still unconcious. Angle pulls Jericho to the centre of the ring and locks in the move fully. The referee slowly comes to and notices that Jericho in unconcious and signals for the bell. The Pittsburgh crowd goes mental as Angle is announced the new World Heavyweight Champion!
Winner(s): Kurt Angle
The evening comes to an end with scenes of Jericho and Benoit unconcious from their respective attacks and Angle standing proud on the second rope posing with his new GWA World Heavyweight Championship belt!
